Naini Lake

Naini Lake is the prime attraction of Nainital, which is surrounded by green hills. Travellers can enjoy activities like yachting, rowing and paddling here. According to legends, the eye-shaped lake was formed at the spot where the left eye of the Hindu Goddess Sati fell (while Lord Shiva was carrying her to the Kailash Parvat). The lake is also known as ‘The lake of Three Sages’ or the ‘Tri-Rishi-Sarovar’.

Naina Peak

Naina Peak is the highest point of Nainital, from where tourists can enjoy a majestic view of the entire region. It is also known as the China Peak and is perched at an elevation of 2611 m above sea level. Travellers can hire a pony or a horse to reach the peak from the Snow-View and the Mallital. It is situated at a distance of 6 km from the Nainital Town.

Naina Devi Temple

This temple is dedicated to Mata Naina Debi represented by two eyes. You will found some more temples like goddess Kali and Lord Ganesha around the Naina Devi Temple. It is believed that the time of Mahatandab of lord Shiva, the eyes (Naina) of the Goddess Sati are assumed to have fallen here. It is located in the north bank of Nainital Lake.

St. John in the Wilderness Church

It was founded by Daniel Wilson in the year 1844, who was the bishop of Culcutta. It is located in amidst the deodar forest at Mallital about1 Km from Nainital Devi temple. The Church serves as a memorial for the victims of the landslide in 1880.

Governer’s House

It was constructed in 1899 by the British Ruler. It was designed in the Victorian Gothic domestic style by the architect Stevens. It was used as the summer residence of the British Governor. Now it is the official guest house for the governor of the state Uttarakhand. The complex consists of a two-storied mansion with 113 rooms, a large garden, a swimming pool, and golf links.

Snow View

Snow view is located at an altitude of 7448 feet and located atop the Sher-ka-danda Ridge. It is about 3 km away from Nainital and easily accessible by Rope Way. Snow View point provides you an enchanting view of Nainital and 350 km long range of the Glittering Mighty Himalayas. Charges for ropeway are Rs. 150 per adult and Rs. 75 per child. The best times to visiting here is start from late October and continue to end of November.

Pt. G B Pant high Altitude Zoo

It is a high altitude (6901 feet) zoo located at Sher Ka Danda hill in Nainital, Uttarakhand. This zoo was established in 1984 and opened to public in 1995. It covers an area of 4.6 hectares. It houses various animals like Kaleej Phesant, Siberian Tiger, Snow Leopard, Goat Antelope-Ghooral and Serao etc.

Eco Cave Garden

Eco Cave Gardens are an interconnected network of caves and attract huge crowds of tourists and are a treat for kids upon their visit. The park comprises of seven caves which are reached through a narrow and winding road with amazing views during the commute. This is one of the best places one should visit with the family and is of special interest to kids with the musical fountain that is located here.

Kilbury Bird Sanctuary

Within the Nainital district lies the Pangot and Kilbury Bird Sanctuary, which is home to more than 580 bird species, making it a paradise for bird lovers. Collared grosbeaks, brown wood owls, laughing thrushes, blue-winged minla and kalij pheasants are among the few to be found here amid the lush forests of rhododendron, oak and pine of the sanctuary. It is also a refuge for several species of animals, including leopards, sambar deer, barking deer and yellow-throated Himalayan martens.

Hanuman Garhi

Hanumangarhi is a religious site located at a distance of 3 km from Nainital. The famous temple devoted to the Hindu Lord Hanuman is perched at an elevation of 1951 m above sea level. This shrine was built by Neem Karoli Baba in the year 1950. Besides, there is a Shitala Devi Temple and Ashram of Lila Sah Bapu located on the other side of the hill.

Khurpatal

Khurpatal is an angler’s paradise, located around 10 km away from Nainital. This beautiful hamlet is perched at an elevation of 1635 m above sea level. It is known for its pleasant climate and an enchanting lake, where fishing can be enjoyed. Khurpatal was famous for the production of iron implements till the 19th century, but now it is known for its green vegetable farms.

There have some more interesting tour spots in and around Nainital like The Jim Corbett National Park, Mukteshwar, Bhimtal Lake, Sattal, Gurney House, Hanumangarhi, Pangot, Laria Kanta, Land’s End and Sukhatal.

By Air:- The Nearest Airport from Nainital is Pantnagar Airport which is about 69 Km from Nainital. It is domestic airport provides regular flights from Delhi, after reaching there you can take a local taxi to reach Nainital.

By Train:- The Nearest Railway Station is Kathgodam Railway Station. It is about 34 Km from Nainital, there are trains available from Delhi to reach Kathgodam. So once you reach here you can book a local taxi for your further journey.

By Road:- Nainital is well connected with road transports and you can drive here by your car as well as you can take taxi from Delhi which is about 311 Km from Nainital city.
