Our 5-day Auli Chopta trip from Haridwar costs ₹9,800 to ₹17,500 per person on a package, for a group of six sharing a cab and rooms. Add about ₹1,500–₹4,000 per person for lunches, snacks, 5% GST and small extras. Skiing, if you want it, is extra.
When people ask us about Auli Chopta trip cost, they usually want to know two things: the package price, and what they'll end up spending on top of it. This guide answers both. The numbers come from the trips we run on the Haridwar–Chopta–Auli route every season, so you won't find any surprises when you get there.

Where your money goes
The cab is the biggest single cost on this trip. One vehicle covers about 600–650 km of mountain roads over five days, and its cost is shared by everyone in the car. That's why group size matters so much (more on that below).
Stays are the second-biggest cost. Chopta camps are simple and good value. Auli hotels cost more, especially in snow season. Meals are simple, filling home-style food included in your package, so you only pay for lunches on the road.

Extra costs most people forget
Plan for these on top of your package:
| Extra | Approx. cost |
|---|---|
| 5% GST on the package | About ₹490 on a ₹9,800 package |
| Lunch and tea on the road | ₹200–₹400 per day, so ₹1,000–₹1,500 for the trip |
| Tea and Maggi on the Tungnath trail | ₹300–₹500 (prices go up with altitude) |
| Auli chair lift, when running | About ₹500 return |
| Micro-spikes or snow boots in winter | A small daily rental |
| Room heater at budget hotels | A small extra per night |
Also carry at least ₹3,000 in cash per person. ATMs are few after Ukhimath and Joshimath, and card or UPI payments often fail when the network drops.
One cost you no longer pay: the Joshimath–Auli ropeway ticket, which used to be about ₹1,000. The ropeway has been closed since January 2023, and we drive up by road. See the latest Auli ropeway status.
Skiing costs in Auli
Skiing is possible only when there's enough snow, usually from mid-January to early March.
| Option | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Ski rental (skis, boots, poles) | About ₹550–₹1,500 per day, depending on the shop and gear |
| Private instructor | About ₹2,000 per day |
| Beginner day (lesson and gear) | About ₹1,500–₹3,000 |
| GMVN 7-day or 14-day course | Fees set by GMVN each season; include lodging, meals, gear and lifts |
For most people on a 5-day trip, half a day to a full day of skiing is plenty to try it out. Read our skiing in Auli guide before you book.
How group size changes your cost
Our package prices assume six people sharing one Ertiga. Because the cab costs the same whether it carries two people or six, smaller groups pay more each:
- Couples pay the most per person, since two people share the whole cab cost. A smaller sedan helps a little.
- Families of four fall in between.
- Groups of six get the listed price.
- Groups of 10–12 can take a Tempo Traveller, which usually brings the per-person cost down further.
- Solo travellers can join our Auli Chopta group tour from Haridwar, from ₹9,200 per person.
Send us your group size and we'll give you an exact figure.
How the season changes your cost
- Peak (Christmas–New Year, snowfall weekends, May–June holidays): stays cost the most and fill up fast. Book 3–4 weeks ahead.
- Snow season (January–February): Auli hotels charge more, and skiing adds to your spend.
- Shoulder (March, October–early November): the best value. Camps and hotels often drop their rates, and the views are excellent.
- Monsoon (July–August): cheap, but we don't recommend it because of landslides.

Starting from Delhi
Add the cost of getting to Haridwar and back. An overnight train or a Volvo bus is the cheapest option, and a train lets you start the drive fresh in the morning. Many travellers also add one night in Haridwar or Rishikesh at the start or end.
Package or do-it-yourself?
For six or more people, a package and a self-arranged trip cost about the same. The package saves you from hunting for Chopta camps (they fill up on winter weekends) and from finding a driver who knows the Chopta–Auli road in snow. Shared jeeps are cheaper, but you'll change vehicles several times above Ukhimath, with no fixed timings, which can easily cost you a day.
7 ways to cut your Auli Chopta budget
- Travel in March or October–November, when rates drop.
- Fill one cab with six people.
- Stay in Joshimath instead of Auli; it's cheaper and only 14–16 km away.
- Choose camps in Chopta; they're closer to the trek start anyway.
- Try one day of skiing instead of a full course.
- Book 3–4 weeks ahead for holiday weeks, when prices jump.
- Carry your own snacks and a refillable bottle for the trek.
