Getting to Haridwar is the easy part. Getting from the station or airport to your hotel on a busy snan day is where trips go wrong.
So plan both. A train ticket, a flight or a cab booking does not tell you where a vehicle will be allowed to stop during the Mela. This guide walks through each way of arriving and what to arrange for the last stretch.
Haridwar's district website lists rail and road connections, and names Jolly Grant Airport near Dehradun as the air option. Always check current services for your exact dates before you book.

By train
Check the station on your ticket. Send your train number, arrival date and expected time to whoever is picking you up and confirm the meeting point before you leave home.
Do not assume the driver can wait at any exit, or that the road outside the station will be open as usual. Agree a meeting point and a fallback if your train runs late. Trains do run late in Kumbh weeks.
If you land before check-in time, decide what happens. Your options: book the previous night, ask for a confirmed early check-in (it may cost extra), or arrange a place to keep your bags.

By air through Dehradun
Tell your pickup provider your flight number, how many people are coming and how much luggage. That decides the size of the vehicle. Many people book a small car and then discover four large suitcases do not fit.
Ask what the quote includes: waiting time, parking and the agreed transfer. If the last bit to your hotel is restricted, the plan should say what happens next and who pays for any extra help.
Do not book a tight return flight on the idea that a normal-day transfer time will hold during the Mela. Leave a buffer.
Coming from Delhi
You can go by train or take a private cab. The right choice depends on where in Delhi you start, how many of you there are and how much luggage you carry. A pickup from Delhi airport is not the same as one from a railway station or a home address, so give exact details when you ask for a quote.
If you are doing a road package, remember that a late-night flight into Delhi and an early bathing visit may need more than a basic two-night plan. Add a night if your onward connection is tight.

Coming from Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Jaipur, Kolkata or Bengaluru
Book your actual train or flight first. Then fit the Haridwar stay around it. Do not assume a local 2N/3D package includes your travel from home. It normally starts from the pickup point written in the quote.

The last part of the trip
Before you leave home, get these four things in writing:
- The hotel's exact entrance
- The place where a vehicle can stop on your dates
- How your luggage will be moved if the car cannot reach the hotel
- A phone number for someone who will answer
The drive and the walk are two different parts of the plan. Do not treat an old event map or last year's parking arrangement as proof of how 2027 will work.

Plan the return trip too
Leave breathing room between your last activity and your train or flight. How much depends on the route and the restrictions. There is no single number that works for everyone.
