About Sapt Rishi Ashram, Haridwar
Sapt Rishi Ashram, also known as Sapt Sarovar, is a quiet riverside ashram a few kilometres from Har Ki Pauri. According to tradition, seven great sages meditated here, and the Ganga divided herself into seven streams so that she would not disturb them. The ashram is peaceful, green and far from the busy ghats, which makes it a good stop for anyone who wants to slow down.

The legend
The Sapt Rishis are Kashyapa, Atri, Vashishtha, Vishwamitra, Gautama, Jamadagni and Bharadvaja. Tradition says they performed penance on this stretch of the Ganga. When the river reached the spot, she is said to have divided into seven streams to avoid disturbing them. The place is therefore known as Sapt Sarovar or Sapt Dhara. Today the flow is managed by canals and channels, but the old name remains.
