About Tehri Lake

Tehri Lake is the large reservoir formed by the Tehri Dam on the Bhagirathi and Bhilangana rivers. It has become one of Uttarakhand's best loved adventure stops, with boating, jet skiing, banana rides and lakeside stays. The blue water against the hills makes for beautiful views, and the dam is one of the tallest in India.

Activities at Tehri Lake

Most activities are run from the Koti Colony and Tehri Lake adventure zones by licensed operators. Common options are speed boat rides, banana boat rides, jet skiing, kayaking, paddle boating and scuba or paramotoring at certain seasons. Rates change often, so confirm before booking. Safety jackets are provided, and a trained staff member accompanies each ride.

Tehri Dam

The dam is a major hydroelectric project and among the tallest dams in India. Public viewing is limited because of security rules, so check with local authorities before planning a visit. The reservoir submerged old Tehri town, and local people often share stories of the old town if you ask.
