About Omkareshwar Temple, Ukhimath
Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath is one of the most important temples of the Kedarnath region. When heavy snow closes the Kedarnath and Madmaheshwar shrines in winter, their utsav idols are brought down to this temple and worshipped here for about six months. For anyone planning a winter darshan of Kedarnath, Ukhimath is where it happens.

Why Ukhimath matters
After the Kedarnath temple closes, usually around Bhai Dooj in October or November, the Kedarnath idol is carried in a ceremonial procession to Ukhimath. The Madmaheshwar idol arrives as well. The temple committee holds all the winter prayers here, and many devotees make the journey to see the idols in a milder climate. When the doors of Kedarnath open again in spring, the idols return in a procession, which is one of the most colourful events of the season.
Winter darshan
If you cannot visit Kedarnath in summer or want a calmer visit, Ukhimath offers a winter darshan. Roads in the region can be affected by snow, so check conditions. Mahashivratri is another busy time at the temple.
