Best Time to Visit Harsil: A Month-by-Month Guide

Posted on October 12, 2026by Gokeys India4 min read
Harsil Valley Winter

For comfortable weather, clear views and easy roads, the best time to visit Harsil is late March to June and September to mid-November. If you want snow and don't mind a slower, colder trip with a spare day, go from mid-December to February. We advise against July and August because of the monsoon.

Month by month

January

The coldest and, in many years, the snowiest month. Expect frozen mornings, sun in the middle of the day when it is clear, and very cold nights. Snow can close the road for a while. Best for travellers who want a quiet snow valley and have at least four days.

February

Still very cold, with snow possible early in the month. Days start to lengthen. Often a good choice if you want snow with slightly more stable roads than January. Read our full winter guide.

March

Snow can still fall and linger on the slopes, but the days warm and roads tend to ease. A good compromise month. Blossom begins in late March or April in the orchards.

April

Cool to mild. Apple blossom, clear air and few crowds. The Gartang Gali and Sattal trails typically open in April or at the start of the trekking season (see their guides for the current date). Mornings and nights are still cold.

May

Pleasant and the start of peak season. Good for Lama Top, village walks and treks. Book stays early.

June

Warm days at this altitude, clear mornings and the busiest weeks of the year. Expect more vehicles on the road and higher prices. Early monsoon clouds can appear late in the month.

July

Monsoon. Rain, cloud and landslide risk on the road to Harsil. Views are often hidden. We generally don't recommend leaving fixed plans in July.

August

Still monsoon. The valley is lush, but travel is unreliable. The apple harvest begins towards the end of the month. If you must go, be flexible and check conditions the week before.

September

The monsoon fades, and the air gets clear. Early September can still have rain; the second half of the month is often lovely. Apple orchards start to ripen. See Harsil apple season.

October

Often the best month of the year: crisp, clear, golden light, the apple harvest, and settled weather. Evenings get cold.

November

Cold and dry, with fewer travellers. Early November is still good for walking; later in the month, nights are freezing and some services start to close. The trails usually wind down for the season.

December

First snow becomes possible. Early December often has clear, cold days; later in the month snow is more likely and so are delays. Good for flexible travellers who want quiet.
