Char Dham Yatra Cost Per Person: Complete Budget from Haridwar

If you are planning a Char Dham Yatra from Haridwar, one of the first questions you may have is: how much does Char Dham Yatra cost per person?

For a standard 9-night and 10-day Char Dham Yatra from Haridwar, Gokeys India packages start from around ₹21,000 per person on a group-sharing basis. A similar price is possible for a private group of around six people, depending on the travel dates, room sharing and hotel availability.

The package generally includes accommodation, breakfast and dinner, and transportation from Haridwar for the complete Char Dham circuit.

If you are travelling as a couple or a smaller private group, the cost per person will be higher because the vehicle and other common expenses are shared between fewer people. For example, our indicative Standard package for two people is around ₹34,250 per person, compared with around ₹21,500 per person for six people.

The final cost also depends on your hotel category, room sharing, vehicle, travel dates and any additional services you choose.

Below, we have explained the Char Dham Yatra cost for different group sizes, from couples and families to larger groups, along with the additional expenses you should consider while planning your total Yatra budget.

Char Dham Yatra Cost Per Person by Group Size

For travellers looking for a quick answer, our Char Dham group tours start from around ₹21,000 per person. For a private Char Dham Yatra, the cost changes according to the number of people travelling, vehicle, hotel category and room sharing.

The table below gives you a practical idea of the per-person cost for a 9-night and 10-day Char Dham Yatra from Haridwar.

12 Persons₹20,000₹28,000₹45,750

All prices above are per person. These are indicative package rates based on our current calculations. Our final Char Dham Yatra 2027 prices are being updated, so the final quotation can change according to travel dates, hotel rates, room sharing and availability.

What Is Included in These Prices?

The package includes the main services required for a Haridwar-to-Haridwar Char Dham Yatra:

  • Transportation for the complete tour as per the itinerary
  • Accommodation for 9 nights
  • Breakfast and dinner (MAP meal plan)
  • Room sharing according to the number of travellers
  • Driver allowance, tolls and parking as mentioned in the final quotation

Local transport, pony, palki, doli, helicopter tickets, lunch and personal expenses are not included unless specifically mentioned in your quotation.

Standard, Deluxe and Luxury Package Difference

Standard Package: Budget/2-star category hotels with basic and comfortable rooms. This is suitable for travellers who want to keep the overall Yatra cost lower.

Deluxe Package: Better category hotels wherever available on the route, suitable for families looking for better rooms and more comfort.

Luxury Package: Higher-category accommodation and upgraded transportation wherever applicable. Hotel options are limited at some locations on the Char Dham route, so Luxury does not necessarily mean the same hotel standard at every destination. We provide the actual hotel names before booking.

Why Can 7 People Cost More Than 6?

The per-person price does not always decrease when another person joins the group.

For example, our indicative Standard rate is around ₹21,500 per person for six travellers, while it is around ₹23,800 per person for seven travellers.

This happens because adding another traveller can require a larger vehicle or a different combination of hotel rooms.

The same applies to larger groups when we move from a smaller vehicle to a Tempo Traveller. This is why we calculate private Char Dham packages according to your actual group size rather than using one fixed per-person price for everyone.

Package Price vs. Your Actual Char Dham Yatra Budget

The package price is the foundation of your budget, but it rarely represents your final out-of-pocket spend.

A standard Haridwar-to-Haridwar package covers your vehicle, driver, accommodation, and MAP meals (breakfast and dinner). However, you still need to budget for transit to Haridwar, roadside lunches, temple offerings, pony/palki hire, and local shuttles like for Sonprayag to Gaurikund.

Expenses CategoryWhat to Verify Before Booking
Package InclusionsHotels, Meals, rooms, vehicle, sightseeing and taxes
Reaching HaridwarTrain or flight tickets, transfer to hotel and stay before Yatra
FoodBreakfast and Dinner Includes in Package, so daily lunch ₹250–₹400 per person/day at highway dhabas between destinations.
Local TransferShuttle Service Sonprayag to Gaurikund (50 Per person for one side)
Trek AssistancePony, Palki, Doli, Helicopter for Kedarnath and Yamunotri Dham
Helicopter ShuttlesOfficial IRCTC HeliYatra ticket cost + ground taxi to helipads (Phata, Sirsi, or Guptkashi).
Personal ExpensesSpecial darshan tokens, temple bhog/offerings, thermal gear, and laundry.
Emergency FundsExtra hotel, food or transport if the itinerary gets delayed due to Traffic, Landslide etc.

One important thing is to avoid counting the same expense twice. For example, if parking, tolls and driver allowance are already included in your package, you don't need to add them separately.

What Changes the Char Dham Cost Per Person?

There can be a big difference between the cost of Char Dham Yatra for two people and the cost per person when six or ten people are travelling together. Here are some of the main reasons.

Number of People Travelling

Group size has a direct effect on the per-person cost, especially when you are booking a private tour.

Suppose two people hire a vehicle from Haridwar for the complete Char Dham route. The entire vehicle cost is divided between only two people. If six people travel together in a suitable vehicle, the transport cost is shared between more travellers.

This is one reason group departures generally have a lower per-person starting price than private tours.

The vehicle also changes according to the number of travellers. A couple may travel by sedan, while a family or larger group may require an SUV or Tempo Traveller.

You can see our available Char Dham cab options to get an idea of the vehicles used on Uttarakhand routes.

Hotel Category and Room Sharing

Accommodation is another major part of the total cost.

Budget hotels and guest houses keep the package price lower, while better hotels and upgraded rooms increase it. Prices can also change according to whether you choose double, triple or four-person sharing.

This becomes particularly important around Kedarnath. Staying at Guptkashi, Phata, Sonprayag or closer to Kedarnath does not give you the same experience or the same price.

We have explained these options separately in our where to stay during Kedarnath Yatra guide.

If you are travelling with family, don't choose a package only because it says “family price.” Ask what rooms are actually being provided at each destination.

Travel Dates

Char Dham prices are not exactly the same throughout the season.

Demand is usually higher around popular travel dates like May - June month, holidays and busy periods of the Yatra. Hotel availability has a particularly noticeable effect on package prices.

If your dates are flexible, read our best time to visit Char Dham guide before deciding your travel dates.

Number of Days

Our regular Char Dham itinerary from Haridwar is 9 nights and 10 days, but there are other itinerary options as well.

A shorter itinerary may look cheaper, but check the route before booking it. Saving one night is not always worth it if you end up travelling for very long hours on another day.

Similarly, adding a rest day or an additional sightseeing destination will increase hotel, meal and vehicle costs.

Meal Plan

Breakfast and dinner are commonly included in many Char Dham packages, while lunch is usually kept separate because travellers are on the road or visiting temples during the day.

Check the meal plan when comparing two package prices. A slightly cheaper package may have fewer meals included.

Extra Costs at Kedarnath and Yamunotri

Kedarnath and Yamunotri are different from Badrinath and Gangotri because your tour vehicle cannot take you directly to the temple and trek is required to cover both the temples.

Kedarnath

For Kedarnath, the road journey generally takes you towards Sonprayag. From there, pilgrims proceed towards Gaurikund using the local transport system and then continue towards Kedarnath.

The trek from Gaurikund to Kedarnath is around 20 km depending on the route and the point from which you measure it.

Travellers who do not want to complete the entire journey on foot may use services such as pony, palki or helicopter, subject to availability and applicable rules.

Generally the price for Pony is approx. 4500-6000, for Palki 10000-16000 and for Doli 6000-10000 for return journey depends upon the traffic and new guidlines.

These services should normally be treated as a separate expense unless your package specifically mentions them.

Read our detailed Sonprayag to Gaurikund guide before travelling. It explains this part of the journey in much more detail.

Yamunotri

A similar situation applies at Yamunotri.

Your vehicle takes you towards Janki Chatti, after which the temple is reached by trekking with approx. 5-6 Kms trek route. Pony and palki services are available for travellers who require assistance.

If you are travelling with elderly parents or anyone who may find the trek difficult, include this expense while planning the trip instead of deciding only after reaching Janki Chatti.

The rates for these local services can change, so we recommend checking the applicable official rates closer to your travel date rather than relying on an old price found online.

Generally the Prices for Pony is around 2000-3500 and Palki cost about 8000-12000 and Doli is about 5000-8000 for return journey.

What About Kedarnath Helicopter Cost?

Helicopter tickets are not normally included in a standard road-based Char Dham package unless clearly mentioned.

This is also where there is often some confusion.

A helicopter ticket for the Kedarnath sector and a complete Char Dham Yatra by helicopter are two completely different things. If you are comparing prices online, make sure you know which service is being offered.

Kedarnath helicopter bookings should be checked through the official IRCTC HeliYatra system.

Weather also plays an important role in helicopter operations in the mountains. If you are planning your itinerary around a helicopter journey, keep some flexibility in your schedule.

We have compared both options in our Char Dham Yatra by helicopter vs road guide.

Char Dham Yatra Cost for a Couple

A couple travelling privately will get a higher per-person cost than someone joining a larger group.

The reason is simple: one hotel room is shared by two people, but the private vehicle is also being paid for by those same two travellers.

For a couple, your budget should include:

Package for 2 people + travel to Haridwar + lunches and personal expenses + any pony, palki or helicopter service required.

If you prefer better hotels or an upgraded vehicle, the cost will increase accordingly.

Char Dham Yatra Cost for a Family of Four

For a family of four, the calculation depends heavily on the room arrangement.

A family taking two double rooms will have a different package cost from a family using one triple room with an extra bed. Children's ages also matter because hotel and meal policies for children can vary (generally children above 6 years is charged extra in the package and if children above 10 then it will be charges same as the adult price).

Transport usually becomes more economical per person because the vehicle cost is now being shared among four people instead of two.

If you are travelling with parents, don't make price the only consideration. Room location, walking distance, rest time and the pace of the itinerary can make a big difference during this journey.

Our Char Dham Yatra with elderly parent's guide covers these points separately.

Char Dham Yatra Cost for a Small Group

Travelling with a small group of friends or family can bring down the per-person cost because major expenses such as transportation are shared.

For example, six adults may take three double rooms and share one suitable vehicle for the complete journey.

However, personal expenses should still be calculated separately. If one person wants a single room, another books a helicopter and someone else uses a palki, these expenses should not be divided equally among the entire group.

This is why we prefer calculating the basic group package first and then adding individual requirements separately.

How Much Extra Money Should You Keep?

It is sensible to keep some additional money available during a Char Dham Yatra.

Mountain travel can occasionally be affected by weather, road conditions or other local situations. An itinerary may take longer than expected, or you may decide to stay an additional night rather than continue a long journey.

Instead of using a fixed percentage, think about the actual cost of one additional day for your group: one night's accommodation, meals and any additional transportation.

Also keep some flexibility in your return train or flight booking if possible.

What to Check Before Booking a Char Dham Package

Don't compare packages only by looking at the final price. Before paying an advance, check:

  • Is the quoted amount per person or the total package price?
  • How many people is the price based on?
  • Which hotels and room categories are included?
  • Is the Kedarnath stay included, and where is it?
  • Which meals are included?
  • Which vehicle will be provided?
  • Are tolls, parking and driver allowances included?
  • Are local transfers included or payable separately?
  • What happens if an additional night is required?
  • What are the cancellation terms?

Also compare the itinerary carefully. A package may appear cheaper simply because it has fewer nights or skips something included in another itinerary.

You can compare the route with our Char Dham Yatra 2027 itinerary.

Get a Char Dham Yatra Cost for Your Group

The easiest way to know your actual Char Dham Yatra cost is to calculate it for your own group rather than relying on a general per-person figure.

Send Gokeys India your travel dates, number of adults and children, preferred hotel category and starting point. We can then calculate the package according to your actual requirements and explain what is included and what you will need to pay separately.

Frequently Asked Questions

₹21,000 is a starting package price and should not be considered the final expense for every traveller. You may still need money for travel to Haridwar, lunches, local transport, personal expenses and services such as pony, palki or helicopter tickets.

A private trip for two usually has a higher per-person cost than a group package because the vehicle cost is shared between only two travellers. For a Standard Char Dham Yatra Package with Gokeys India the couple cost for 9 Nights and 10 Days comes around 70000/- Nett with Accommodation, Meal with Breakfast and Dinner and Transportation.

Normally, no. Pony, palki and similar services at Kedarnath and Yamunotri should be considered additional expenses unless they are specifically mentioned in your package.
