It is said that after the Mahabharata Battle, all Pandvas were feeling guilty about how they have fought battle with their own brothers and the bloodshed happened in the battle. So, they wanted to prey lord Shiva, but lord Shiva didn’t want to meet them, so he transformed into a Bull, anyhow Bhima (one brothers in Five Pandvas) recognized him and followed him then Lord Shiva manifested himself into five different locations, which are now called as Panch Kedar.
It is said the each of these sites is dedicated to a part of the Lord – Kedarnath (the hump of Lord Shiva), Madhmaheshwar (His belly button), Tungnath (His arms), Rudranath (His face), Kalpeshwar (His jata or hair).
