Binsar was earlier the part of Chand Dynasty and was their summer capital from 9th Century to 18th Century.  Binsar name was made of “Bina” and “Sar” which means without head. It is said that once there was battle happened with the “Golu Devta (local deity)” and the king of Binsar and due to some suspicion, Golu Devta was beheaded and his trunk was fell at Gairad Dana Golu, a place near the Wildlife Sanctuary and the head was fell at Kaparkahan, and after that the temple was made at the both place and this place was named to Binsar.

By Trains: – The nearest railhead is Kathgodam, which is located at a distance of 120 Km and well connected with multicity railway networks.

By Roads:- Binsar is well connected with roads transport and you can take buses from Delhi ISBT to Almora, Ranikhet, Kausani and then take share taxis to reach Binsar. Almora is 30 Km and Nainital is 96 Km from Binsar. If you are driving from Delhi which is 410 Km and takes around 12-13 Hours to reach.
